Maintain and strengthen commitment to SCO Charter

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- N. Halilova, a member of the UzLiDeP faction at the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan:

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a good opportunity for practical dialogue, exchange of views on regional and global issues, that’s why Uzbekistan is interested in its effective work. So, Islam Karimov participated in the session of the Council of Heads of SCO Member States in Ufa of the Russian Federation, where the SCO member states exchanged views on topical issues of international and regional importance and the prospects of further development of the organization.

Speeches of the Head of Uzbekistan are always at the focus of a wide range of experts, as they have a balanced and objective assessment of the current issues. In Ufa, this is reflected in such topics as the fight against modern threats and challenges, expansion and improvement of the activities of the SCO.

In this regard, UzLiDeP considers it is important to maintain and strengthen enshrined in the Charter, as well as all the fundamental documents of the SCO, that the activities of the organization are not directed at other countries. Separately, highlight the word of Islam Karimov on the need to eliminate the bloc mentality and the transformation of the SCO into a military-political alliance. Here I would like to remind about the Concept of foreign policy of Uzbekistan, adopted by the Legislative Chamber with the active support of our Party faction, which clearly states that Uzbekistan is pursuing a peaceful policy and does not participate in the military-political blocs.

In general, the SCO summit in Ufa demonstrated progressive growth of the influence and prestige of the organization in addressing the current pressing problems. The SCO is turning into a real factor in ensuring security, stability and sustainable development. Confirmation of these trends is the growing desire of many states to become full members of the SCO, observers and dialogue partners.

J. Nosirov, a member of the UzLiDeP faction at the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan:

As the President Islam Karimov noted at the meeting of the Council of Heads of SCO Member States in Ufa, the Republic of Uzbekistan will assume an important position - the SCO presidency - in the coming year, when we mark the 15th anniversary of our organisation, which should enhance our shared responsibility for the successful implementation of future plans.

UzLiDeP believes that our country as a presiding country, adhering to and respecting the principles of continuity, will consistently strengthen and develop mutually beneficial cooperation of the SCO, which meets interest of its member states and to ensure a steady growth of the credibility of the organization in the international arena. The attention will be paid to the development of measures to enhance the joint fight against terrorism, extremism and separatism, preparing adequate responses to modern challenges to international and regional security, sustainable economic development and human development of the SCO.

As part of its SCO presidency, Uzbekistan is going to pay close attention to encouraging efficient regional cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian, scientific and educational fields. The attention will be also paid to measures on strengthening role of the organization as reliable guarantor of stability and development in the region, as well as further development of relations with the UN, other international organizations and interested states.
