Macron Names Uzbekistan as Alternative Uranium Supplier for Europe

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — French President Emmanuel Macron has highlighted the need to diversify uranium supplies to Europe, naming Uzbekistan as one of the countries capable of reducing dependence on Russian imports.

Speaking at the International Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris, Macron acknowledged Europe’s continued reliance on Russian uranium. He stressed that ensuring energy security requires expanding collaboration with alternative suppliers, including Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Canada, and Australia.

Macron emphasized that nuclear energy remains central to energy independence, decarbonization, and economic growth, calling for close cooperation between national nuclear authorities and the development of unified industry standards. He noted that new measures for nuclear energy development in France will be discussed at the upcoming Nuclear Policy Council meeting in Paris.
