Lyazzat Akhanova: “Our relationship is being tested for strength”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As you know, several villages of Turkestan region of Kazakhstan were flooded due to the break of the dam of the Sardoba reservoir in Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan.

The tourism ambassador of Uzbekistan in the neighboring republic, candidate of art criticism Lyazzat Akhanova believes that nature today is testing the strength of friendly relations between the two countries that have been actively developing recently.

“There are heated discussions in the society around the breakthrough of the dam, which resulted in flooding of villages in the Turkestan region,” she said in an interview with Dunyo news agency. - In this situation, we must not forget that we have a rich joint past. Thanks to these values, additional opportunities are revealed for the development of trade and economic cooperation between our countries. For example, a new tourist route “Golden Square” was recently presented, uniting the historical cities on the Great Silk Road - Turkestan, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.

Therefore, now, in order not to destroy the dynamics of bilateral relations, one must refrain from unilateral accusations. If someone is to blame for the man-made disaster provoked by heavy spring thunderstorms, I am sure they will be called to account.

According to the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, all hydropower facilities, dams and hydroelectric power plants that may be subject to erosion due to heavy rains are currently being checked by the relevant state authorities.

And now we need to help the people affected by the disaster in both Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. And if someone is not able to help, then do not tear the soul of the distressed already. Misfortune does not divide people into friends and foes.

As for the actions of the heads of our states, we see that, despite the difficulties created by the pandemic of the dangerous coronavirus, they are doing everything possible to eliminate the effects of the flood.

The experience of Uzbekistan, where in 45 days in 2018 the village of Manas was rebuilt in Dustlik district of Jizzakh region, shows that this is possible. By the way, before that, Uzbekistan has already accumulated a lot of experience in the social arrangement of the country under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Thus, he demonstrated that he is a man of action.

Commenting on the breakthrough of the dam, the head of Uzbekistan emphasized that “in the spirit of mutual understanding and openness” he had already discussed the current situation with Kasym-Jomart Tokaev. The President said that the government of Uzbekistan is ready to provide Kazakhstan with the necessary assistance in the aftermath of the disaster.

At a meeting with residents of the border regions of Uzbekistan, he said words that arouse pride in Man: "My whole team and I will live here, under the same conditions as you, until we provide the last of you with a new home."
