Lukashenko, Uzbek Envoy Discuss Mirziyoyev Visit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko held talks on 9 March with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Belarus, Rakhmatulla Nazarov, focusing on preparations for the planned visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Minsk.

At the start of the meeting, Lukashenko noted that the two sides have a broad agenda to discuss ahead of the visit. He said relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan are developing dynamically, pointing to the recent visit of a Belarusian government delegation led by the prime minister to Uzbekistan.

Lukashenko stressed that Minsk and Tashkent aim to increase bilateral trade to US$2 billion by 2030. According to him, the economies of the two countries complement rather than compete with each other, ranging from agriculture to mechanical engineering.

The Belarusian leader also proposed expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector, including the possibility of providing land plots in the Vitebsk and Mogilev regions for joint projects. He added that Belarusian enterprises are ready to process Uzbek wool and other raw materials.

Lukashenko also highlighted prospects for cooperation in nuclear energy. He said Belarus is prepared to share experience and expertise gained from building its nuclear power plant and assist Uzbekistan in implementing its energy projects.

The president noted that Belarus is interested in attracting labor migrants from Uzbekistan. According to him, foreign workers and their families are offered conditions for residence, education, and social integration on par with citizens of the country.

Lukashenko expressed confidence that Mirziyoyev’s upcoming visit will become an important milestone in bilateral relations and help elevate cooperation to a new level.
