Low competition in mayonnaise, soy sauce, and yeast markets highlights investment opportunities in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Center for Competition Policy Research and Consumer Rights Protection under the Antimonopoly Committee of Uzbekistan has conducted an in-depth analysis of domestic market saturation, production volumes, competitive dynamics, and import geography.
The findings reveal that several key product categories remain significantly under-supplied by local producers, pointing to untapped potential for new industrial investment and production initiatives within the country.
One of the highlighted markets is mayonnaise. Currently, 16 domestic enterprises produce a total of 5.8 thousand tons of mayonnaise, while imports stand at 14.6 thousand tons and exports at only 28.2 tons. As a result, the local market’s saturation rate for mayonnaise is just 28.4%.
The situation is even less favorable for soy sauce. Only five companies operate in this segment, producing a mere 154 tons annually. In contrast, imports total 637 tons, with exports at 15 tons. This places the market saturation by local products at just 19.8%.
The corn starch market is even more underdeveloped. While three enterprises produce 2.3 thousand tons, Uzbekistan imports a substantial 23.5 thousand tons and exports 138 tons. This results in a market saturation level of just 9% for local corn starch.
In the activated carbon segment, three producers generate 498 tons of product. However, imports reach 2.5 thousand tons, and only 1 ton is exported. The market saturation level for activated carbon stands at 16.4%.
The yeast market is the most under-supplied. Only one local enterprise currently operates in this sector, producing just 21 tons. Meanwhile, imports have reached 12.6 thousand tons, and exports total 76 tons. This leads to an extremely low local market saturation rate of just 0.2%.
The analysis clearly shows that these markets are heavily reliant on imports and have low levels of domestic production, indicating substantial room for growth. This presents significant opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs looking to launch or expand production projects in Uzbekistan.
