Library of Congress donated valuable books from Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Uzbekistan led by Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva handed over to the Library of Congress a collection of books from the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in World Collections project.

The ceremony of handing over books from the American side was attended by the director of the Department of Literature of the Middle East and Africa, where library funds are stored in the Uzbek language, Joan Wicks, as well as the head of the department of the Arab world, Muhannad Salkhi.

At the beginning of the conversation, it was noted that the presented books would be of interest not only to representatives of the US research community, but also to a wide international audience.

In particular, the project "Cultural heritage of Uzbekistan in the collections of the world", which is carried out thanks to the personal attention of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the issues of careful preservation, enrichment and enhancement of the historical, cultural and intellectual heritage of the Uzbek people, will be able to surprise American readers, Joan Wicks believes.

Expressing deep gratitude for the provided books, representatives of the US Library of Congress noted that these valuable works of Uzbek scientists will take their rightful place in their library fund.

The researchers were surprised and delighted with the facsimile of the manuscripts of Central Asia and the medieval East, showing rare works, unique handwritten examples of historical documents, some of which date back to the seventh century.

As a result of the event, an agreement was reached on intensifying bilateral cooperation between library experts, joint digitization of historical manuscripts.

In particular, the American side expressed interest in establishing partnerships between the Library of Congress and the Institute of Oriental Studies under the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
