Lawmakers approve amendments to the law on crime prevention

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis reviewed the draft law "On Amendments and Additions to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On Crime Prevention’" in its first reading.

It was noted that in recent years, the country has been implementing systematic measures to prevent crime, curb offenses, and strengthen preventive actions for individuals at high risk of committing crimes.

The proposed legislation aims to expand mechanisms for state protection of citizens facing threats, violence, or harassment.

The draft also seeks to optimize the system of preventive registration by reducing the number of categories of individuals subject to registration from six to three and decreasing the list of administrative offenses warranting registration from 28 to 12. Additionally, two new articles will be introduced into the law.

Notably, the amendments include individuals prosecuted for domestic violence under Article 592 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility, as well as those deprived of their driving privileges by a court ruling for administrative violations.

The adoption of this law will ensure that legal measures are not applied to certain categories of citizens without a clear determination of their culpability.

Following an active discussion, lawmakers supported and approved the draft law.
