Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In Tashkent, law enforcement officers used firearms to stop a drunk driver.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the incident took place on 7 January at about 15:00 in Yunusabad district of Tashkent.

The driver of a black Malibu car with no license plates ignored the demand of law enforcement officials to stop at the intersection and tried to hide from them.

The UAZ Patriot car starts to follow him. The Malibu driver then returns and the car is surrounded by law enforcement officers. The pursuing Malibu UAZ Patriot attempts to block the way. The Malibu driver is again trying to escape from the scene. Law enforcement officers fired several shots.

The press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, Shokhrukh Giyasov, said that the driver, A.A., born in 1976, was in a state of severe intoxication.

He added that the vehicle was forcibly stopped, the driver was rendered harmless. As a result of the use of weapons, no one was injured.

On the fact of the incident, the Yunusabad District Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case under Article 219 of the Criminal Code (“Resistance to a representative of the authorities or a person performing a civic duty”), the investigation continues
