Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan have detained a large consignment of drugs in Tashkent region.

Customs officers and border guards stopped a truck transporting cotton in transit through Uzbekistan to Russia at the Oybek border post. 230 kg of heroin were found in the truck's cache.

According to accompanying documents, the truck was transporting cotton fibers weighing more than 21.5 tons. 

When the vehicle passed through the customs scanner, the image aroused suspicion among the customs officers that something was hidden in one of the cabin compartments. Hidden compartments at the front of the trailer were opened to reveal 232 packages of drugs, each weighing approximately 1 kg.

The examination confirmed that the seized drugs were heroin. Net weight was 229.7 kg.

At present, a criminal case has been initiated by the customs authorities on the revealed fact, and an investigation is underway.
