Large-Scale Power Capacity Commissioned at Tolimarjon Thermal Power Plant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Today, at the International Congress Center, and with the participation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a ceremonial event was held to launch new energy capacities and announce the start of several major projects in the sector.

During the event, it was announced that a 1,065 MW combined-cycle power unit at the Tolimarjon Thermal Power Plant has been commissioned. The plant is part of the JSC “Thermal Power Plants” system and was constructed in cooperation with leading international companies.

The investment project, valued at US$944.87 million, represents a key stage in the modernization of the country’s energy system. Thanks to the President’s continuous support, construction work, which began in 2023, was completed in record time, and the high-tech complex is now fully operational.

Project financing was provided through credit facilities from the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Reconstruction and Development Fund of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Construction was implemented in partnership with companies such as Intesa Ingenieria Industrial S.A. (Spain), Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan), and Çalık Energy (Turkey).

The launch of the combined-cycle units will enable annual electricity production of up to 8 billion kWh. The use of energy-saving technologies is expected to save approximately 300 million cubic meters of natural gas each year.

The new complex will provide reliable electricity to consumers in the Samarkand and Bukhara regions, seven pumping stations of the Karshi main canal, and several settlements in the region.

The project has created 200–250 new jobs. The equipment, manufactured in Japan, South Korea, China, and the United States, features a high degree of automation and energy efficiency. Each gas turbine has a capacity of 385 MW, while the steam turbine has a capacity of 185.7 MW.

For uninterrupted energy transmission to the Unified National Power System, new 500 kV outdoor switchyards have been constructed.

The project was implemented in accordance with the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 18 December 2020, “On the Expansion of JSC ‘Tolimarjon TPP’ through the Construction of Two Combined-Cycle Units with a Total Capacity of at Least 900 Megawatts.”
