Labor migration issues to the Republic of Korea discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Director of the Migration Agency, Behzod Musaev, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan Won Doyeon.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the employment of Uzbek citizens in the Republic of Korea, joint solutions to concerns raised by citizens, the organization of EPS-TOPIK exams in the regions, sending citizens on professional and seasonal visas, and preventing negative situations related to illegal work in Korea.

Special attention was given to the need for enhancing Korean language training for candidates traveling to Korea, in accordance with employer requirements.

The Ambassador expressed concern about the applications entered into the SPAS electronic database but not selected by employers, and noted that all possible means would be used to resolve this issue positively. The importance of adhering to labor contracts for citizens traveling to work in Korea was also emphasized, as this would increase the likelihood of Uzbek workers being selected by Korean employers.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to further develop legal and safe migration processes between the two countries, as well as expand opportunities for labor migration.

Since 2007, Uzbekistan has been participating in the Republic of Korea’s Employment Permit System (EPS) program. Over this period, 48,000 Uzbek citizens have been sent to work in Korea, and in 2024, the country received 534 million US dollars in remittances.
