Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Kyrgyzstan is ready to open the road to the Uzbek enclave of Sokh, and Uzbekistan is ready to give up the Unkar-Too area. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of Kyrgyzstan Galina Baiterek, summing up the results of Sadyr Japarov’s state visit to Uzbekistan.

“The visit to Uzbekistan was undoubtedly fruitful. It can be stated that the meetings between Sadyr Japarov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev restarted Kyrgyz-Uzbek relations, laid the foundation for cooperation at a completely new qualitative level,” Baiterek said.

She noted that on the issues of delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border, both sides agreed that this work should be completed within the next three months. Completion of the legal registration of the state border will strengthen stability in the border areas and give a new impetus to the development of bilateral relations.

“It is already known that in the near future the activities of 7 checkpoints on the state border will be resumed, the Uzbek side promised to resolve the issue of freight traffic and, if necessary, provide appropriate equipment for scanning documents,” Baiterek said.

She stressed that the Kyrgyz side is ready to open transport and air communication to the Uzbek enclave of Sokh, located on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. Residents of the enclave can move freely across the state border. In turn, Uzbekistan expressed its readiness in the future not to lay claim to the disputed area of Unkar-Too, she said.

According to the presidential press secretary, the remaining controversial issues regarding the delimitation of state borders will be decided by a special commission.
