Korea-Uzbekistan Development Cooperation Symposium to take place in Tashkent
On the same day KOICA Office in Uzbekistan jointly with the Ministry for foreign economic relations, investments and trade will be holding the Korea-Uzbekistan Development Cooperation Symposium dedicated to discussion of future strategies for socio-economic development of Uzbekistan.
The symposium will be attended by First Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Rustam Azimov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South Korea to Uzbekistan Mr. Lee Wook-heon, KOICA Vice-President Mr. Choi Sungho, Minister of labor and social security Mr. Aziz Abdukhakimov, Deputy Minister for foreign economic relations, investments and trade Mr. Shavkat Tulyaganovand other high level officials.
The symposium will be divided into sessions, which will include video-reels about KOICA activities and presentations from the representative of partner ministries.
In particular the representative of MFERIT will tell about the “Role of Korea in Uzbekistan Development Cooperation”, while KOICA Vice-President will share his thoughts on “The national development demands of Uzbekistan and ODA strategy for Uzbekistan”. The Ministry of economy will present the 5 year economic plan of Uzbekistan on main directions and priorities of socio-economic development, and Professor from Seoul National University will make a presentation on “International ODA trends and introduction of the initiative of Korea”. The activities of KOICA within healthcare, education (vocational training), agriculture and e-government will be presented as well.
The last part of the symposium will gather all participants for the discussion on the direction of Korea’s ODA for the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan. The discussion will help to obtain experts’ suggestions on guidelines for further strategic partnership.
The organization of this symposium is very timely, specifically due to being held right after Uzbekistan and South Korea inked a program of cooperation with the KOICA for 2015-2017 within the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Korea, thus giving a good momentum to discuss future cooperation and further strengthening ties between two nations.
KOICA Office in Uzbekistan has been operating since 1995 and making a great effort in supporting necessary works for socio-economic development of Uzbekistan with a special focus on education (vocational training), healthcare and public administration (e-government). Since 1995 up to present KOICA Office in Uzbekistan has implemented various grant-aid projects with total amount exceeding $78.9 million.
