KOICA plans to increase number of volunteers in Uzbekistan
A meeting of organizations participating in the Volunteers Program was held in Tashkent on 22 October to discuss activities of South Korean volunteers in Uzbekistan and improving their work.
Speaking at the event, Hwang In Song said that the KOICA sent over 400 volunteers to Uzbekistan in 20 years. Currently, 48 volunteers are working in Uzbekistan.
He said that about 60% of KOICA volunteers work in Tashkent and Tashkent region and 40% - in regions of Uzbekistan. He said that the agency plans to change situation and sent 60% of volunteers in the regions of Uzbekistan.
Hwang In Song noted that 56% of volunteers are working in direction “Teaching Korean Language”. ICT and taekwando are also popular directions in Uzbekistan. KOICA representative said that the organization also plans to diversify directions, in which volunteers are working.
Director of KOICA Uzbekistan Office Im Jeong Hee said that since 1995 the KOICA has directed about 79 million to realization of 24 projects in Uzbekistan. About 1,400 public servants participated in courses and trainings in South Korea.
Im Jeong Hee confirmed that the KOICA is planning to expand number of volunteers and directions of their activities in Uzbekistan to contribute to social-economic development of Uzbekistan.
KOICA Office in Uzbekistan has been operating since 1995 and making a great effort in supporting necessary works for socio-economic development of Uzbekistan with a special focus on education (vocational training), healthcare and public administration (e-government). Since 1995 up to present KOICA Office in Uzbekistan has implemented various grant-aid projects with total amount exceeding $80 million.
