KOICA and the Ministry of Justice launch a Project for Intellectual Property Public Administration in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 21 May 2025, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a Record of Discussion for a new project titled “Improvement of the Intellectual Property Public Administration System in Uzbekistan.”
The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Justice of Uzbekistan Muzraf Ikramov, KOICA Vice-President Hong Seok Hwa, Head of the Intellectual Property Department Bakhrillo Khasanov, KOICA Country Director in Uzbekistan Myung Seop Shin, as well as other high-level representatives from both sides. This new initiative reflects the strong and growing partnership between the two countries in the field of public administration and the modernization of government services through application of digital tools.
The project, to be implemented from 2025 to 2029, is designed to improve the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of intellectual property services in Uzbekistan. With a total budget of 9.73 million USD, the initiative will support the development of advanced digital systems including AI-based tools for trademark and patent processing, public search platforms, and statistical data systems.
It will also strengthen institutional capacity through training workshops, ICT equipment delivery, and public awareness seminars. This project will be funded by KOICA and supported technically by the Korea Institute of Patent Information (KIPI), which has extensive experience in intellectual property rights in Korea.
This partnership builds upon KOICA’s broader commitment to supporting legal modernization and good governance in Uzbekistan, and will contribute to the country’s efforts to create a more citizen-oriented and innovation-driven IP system.
