Khorezm Doubles Funding for Cultural Heritage Restoration: 37.5 Billion Soums to Be Allocated in 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Khorezm Region is significantly increasing funding for the preservation of cultural heritage. In 2026, 37.5 billion soums are planned to be allocated for the restoration and reconstruction of historical sites, more than double the amount spent last year.

The decision was adopted at a meeting of the regional Kengash.

Khorezm Governor Jurabek Rakhimov noted that increased investment in cultural heritage sites is one of the key priorities for the development of the tourism sector. In 2025, 16.3 billion soums were allocated for the restoration of eight sites. In 2026, the scope of work will be expanded to cover a larger number of facilities and areas.

According to the results of last year, the regional economy demonstrated steady growth. Gross regional product increased by 7.9% to reach 63 trillion soums. Industrial output amounted to 34 trillion soums, agricultural production to 35 trillion soums, construction to 14 trillion soums, and the services sector to 37 trillion soums.

A total of 102 investment projects were implemented in the region, attracting US$1.1 billion in foreign investment, while exports reached US$456 million.

Earlier, it was reported that the historic Itchan Kala complex in Khiva will become the world’s first immersive “smart” museum city, where innovative technologies will be integrated into the daily life of local residents, tourist services, and infrastructure, creating a unique experience of interaction with cultural heritage.
