Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Propose Joint Tourism Route to Baikonur Cosmodrome
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are developing a pioneering cross-border tourism initiative focused on space and industrial heritage. The project, proposed by the Kazakh side, aims to leverage the unique tourism potential of the Kyzylorda region by inviting Uzbek tour operators and entrepreneurs to collaborate on high-value travel packages.
The centerpiece of the initiative is a joint route to the Baikonur Cosmodrome, located in Kazakhstan’s Kyzylorda region. The proposed itinerary offers travelers rare access to the mechanics of space exploration, including observations of the assembly and testing of the Soyuz launch vehicle. Tourists will also be able to witness the transportation and installation of rockets onto the launch pad, visit historical museums on-site, and experience live rocket launches on scheduled dates.
Space launches at Baikonur occur several times throughout the year. However, officials noted that participation in these events requires mandatory pre-registration. Kazakh authorities expressed readiness to work with Uzbek partners to create combined travel packages that blend traditional tourism with industrial and aerospace experiences, thereby expanding the tourism exchange between the two neighboring states.
The first practical implementation of this cooperation is slated for a tourism event scheduled between 20 March and 26 April. Industry stakeholders and entrepreneurs are currently being invited to submit proposals to help shape the route, which is expected to serve as a significant driver for bilateral tourism growth.
