Kapalak Bolalar opens new program "Dentistry for "butterflies"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- NGO Kapalak Bolalar launched a new program “Dentistry for “butterflies”. The program is based on the experience of the Russian Foundation "Butterfly Children", thanks to it, the fosterlings of NGOs will be able to receive timely and high-quality dental care.

Within the framework of this project, on 21 and 22v, the NGO Kapalak Bolalar, the Russian Butterfly Children Foundation and the Tashkent State Dental Institute (TSSI) organized lectures and practical sessions on how to properly provide dental care to people with the  Epidermolysis bullosa (EB).

The head of the department of hospital pediatric therapeutic dentistry of the Clinic of Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry of the Federal State Budgetary Institution National Medical Research Center "TsNIIS and Maxillofacial Surgery" of the Ministry of Health of Russia Maria Korolenkova and member of the Board of the Children-Butterflies Foundation, Head of the Medicine direction Anastasia Sabitova came on a working visit.

On the first day, for young specialists, doctors and faculty of TGSI, Russian specialists gave lectures on the topics: "Epidermolysis bullosa: general presentation and dental status of patients" and "Features of dental treatment of patients with epidermolysis bullosa".

At the lectures it was said that the methods of dental treatment for "butterflies" are the same as for all other people. However, when working with them, the dentist must be proficient in some techniques that help minimize the risk of serious injury to the oral mucosa - so delicate and vulnerable in people with EB.

The event was attended by the rector of the TSSI Khaidarov Nodir Kodirovich, the vice-rector for medical work - the chief physician of the TSSI Akhmedov Saidaziz Pulatovich and other leading dentists of the institute.

“I am fascinated by people who are involved in rare diseases. We have not worked with "butterflies" before. We are glad that our specialists have been trusted in the treatment of people with epidermolysis bullosa. I want to say that the meeting was very productive. First of all, we learned a lot about epidermolysis bullosa. We were told about the peculiarities of diagnosis and treatment of such people. Now we can confidently determine the types and forms of BE,” said Lola Muradovna Boltakhodzhaeva, head of the pediatric maxillofacial surgery department at the TGSI clinic.

The second day was devoted to the examination and treatment of the teeth of our fosterlings. Six "butterflies" received the necessary dental care.

NGO Kapalak Bolalar provides free medical, social and legal assistance to its fosterlings. To this end, the organization successfully operates programs for training doctors, hospitalization and rehabilitation, targeted and psychological assistance, patronage and medical support.
