Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) held in Tashkent, a new president of the organization was elected.

The sole candidate for the position was Jooan bin Hamad Al Thani, First Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees and President of the Olympic Committee of Qatar, who was unanimously elected.

Following the election, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Jooan bin Hamad Al Thani, emphasizing the importance of further strengthening cooperation and developing the Olympic movement across the Asian region.

The assembly opened with a welcoming address by the Acting President of the OCA. Participants were shown a video message from International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and presented with the OCA Merit Award for contributions to the organization.

During the session, key organizational matters and decisions shaping the future of Asian sports were discussed.

A notable outcome was the signing of agreements with host cities for the Asian Youth Games: Tashkent was officially designated as the host city for the 2029 Games, while Phnom Penh will host the 2031 edition.

The signing ceremony in Uzbekistan’s capital reinforced Tashkent’s status as a regional hub for sports cooperation.
