JICA Conducts Workshop on Design and Operation of Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plants at Uzbekhydroenergo
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A workshop on the design, construction, and operation of pumped-storage hydropower plants (PSHP) was held at JSC Uzbekhydroenergo with the participation of Japanese experts.
The event was organized within the framework of agreements reached during negotiations between JSC Uzbekhydroenergo and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aimed at training and enhancing the professional qualifications of domestic specialists in the construction and operation of PSHPs with support from the Japanese side.
Held on January 29, the workshop focused on key aspects of the design, financing, construction, and operation of pumped-storage hydropower plants.
During the event, JICA experts presented detailed information on PSHP technology and its main advantages, financial and economic parameters for design and construction, methods for economic analysis and cost minimization, as well as approaches to project timeline control and quality indicators.
Special attention was given to a comparative analysis of PSHPs and battery energy storage systems (BESS), the classification of electrical and mechanical equipment used at the plants, and issues related to operation and technical maintenance.
The workshop marked an important step in developing the human resource potential of the sector and expanding practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in the field of hydropower.
