Japan provides 15 billion yens to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 26 March in Tashkent, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Yoshinori Fujiyama, and the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Odilbek Isakov, signed Exchange Notes totaling 15 billion yen (interest rate 0,01%, maturity 15 years (of which grace period 4 years)) for the purpose of financial support in the response to the COVID-19 crisis.

The purpose of this co-financed loan with a loan from the World Bank is to contribute to social and economic stability and sustainable development of Uzbekistan, which have suffered serious damage due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection around the world.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, economic and social activities such as humanitarian exchange and logistics are stagnating globally. This is an issue that the entire international community, including Japan, must work on together to overcome the adverse impact and lead to development after the pandemic is over.

Japan intends to continue to promote the early resolution of the epidemiological situation, as well as the restoration and stability of the international community and economy.
