Japan hosts an international summit dedicated to the problems of the Aral Sea

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 4th international environmental summit on the topic "Sustainable Development Goals in a virtual city" was held in Japan online.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, the summit has been organized since 2020 to develop new projects and exchange views with the international community on sustainable development in the face of global economic difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, production interruptions and limited travel between the country.

The event was attended by representatives of eight countries, focusing on the environmental problems of the Aral Sea.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan Mukhsinkhuja Abdurakhmanov in his video message to the participants gave detailed information about the history of the Aral Sea problem, the environmental situation in the Aral Sea region, the efforts of the Government of Uzbekistan, including the adoption on 18 May 2021 of a special resolution of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly on the transformation of the Aral Sea region in the zone of environmental innovations and technologies and the definition of seven directions for the implementation of this document, holding in 2022 in Nukus, in cooperation with the UN, an international high-level forum on "green" energy.

In addition, a special video was shown about the activities of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region and the participants were invited to work closely with this fund, Dunyo news agency reported.

Director of G Holdings Co. Ltd, founder of the International Environmental Summit on Sustainable Development Goals in a virtual city Masaaki Hirai:

“This time, the 4th international environmental summit on the topic “Sustainable Development Goals in a Virtual City” was very meaningful and successful. The event was attended by representatives and leaders of a number of organizations from many countries, high-ranking officials and students, as well as presentations on various topics and discussions of new projects.

I believe that the tragedy of the Aral Sea should be an urgent problem not only for Uzbekistan, but for the whole world.

As noted in the speech of the President of Uzbekistan, in 2022 the country will host a high-level UN international forum. I believe that this is a very important event that will further increase the attention of the world community to the environmental situation in the Aral Sea.

We are also aware of the salinity problem in the Aral Sea region. We are currently carrying out a number of studies to reduce salinity, and I hope we can contribute to solving this problem.

We are ready to further develop cooperation with Uzbekistan in the field of environmental protection and ecology. "
