JA Solar to Supply 1.2 GW of Solar Modules for Samarkand 1 and 2 Projects in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — JA Solar, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-performance photovoltaic products, has signed an agreement with Indian engineering and construction company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to supply solar modules for the Samarkand 1 and Samarkand 2 solar power plants in Uzbekistan.

Under the contract, JA Solar will provide all photovoltaic modules for both large-scale solar facilities, reinforcing its position as a key partner in Central Asia’s clean energy transition.

Located near the historic city of Samarkand, the Samarkand 1 and 2 projects — developed by ACWA Power — will have a combined installed capacity of 1.2 gigawatts. Once operational, the plants are expected to supply electricity to hundreds of thousands of households and reduce annual CO₂ emissions by more than 1 million tons. The projects represent a major step toward Uzbekistan’s national goal of generating 25% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

The partnership between ACWA Power, L&T, and JA Solar underscores their shared commitment to building reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy assets in emerging markets. In addition to producing clean electricity, the projects will help create new jobs, develop local infrastructure, and enhance the resilience of the national energy system.

“We are delighted to support these strategically important projects together with global industry leaders,” said Mr. Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar. “Our high-efficiency, durable modules are designed to maximize power generation under a wide range of environmental conditions. This agreement reaffirms our partners’ confidence in JA Solar’s technology and capabilities.”

JA Solar plans to continue its close cooperation with international developers and EPC companies, delivering advanced photovoltaic solutions that meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and timely delivery. The company remains committed to supporting sustainable growth in Central Asia and other rapidly developing regions across the globe.
