Issues of ensuring decent work in the context of gender equality were discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8 October 2020, a meeting was held between the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairperson of the Commission on Ensuring Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzili Narbaeva with the head of the Bureau of the International Labor Organization for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Olga Kulayeva, dedicated to discussing issues of ensuring decent work in the context of gender equality. 

The meeting was also attended by the UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Helena Fraser, Minister of Employment and Labor Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nozim Khusanov, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Adham Ikramov and other interested persons.

During the meeting, it was noted that in recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and the ILO has been brought to a qualitatively new level. The implementation of the MOT conventions in our country has made it possible to bring the regulatory legal acts in line with international labor standards. Uzbekistan has made good progress and made significant progress in implementing the organization’s conventions.

It was emphasized that Uzbekistan has also taken significant steps to improve the position of women in the world of work. The country is taking significant steps to promote decent work and social protection, and to eliminate gender stereotypes in laws, policies, institutions and practices. 

Reforms in the field of gender equality are gaining momentum, and the situation is changing rapidly. In this context, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva briefed the participants in detail on the practical measures taken in our country in recent years and the ongoing reforms to comprehensively support women, ensure gender equality and empower them, which are identified by priority areas of state policy, especially during a pandemic.

During the discussion, they touched upon the tasks facing our country in this direction. In particular, they spoke about the need to further improve the relevant legislation, revise the framework of migration and recruitment, and strengthen support for women in the public sector. The parties also exchanged views on new vectors of cooperation in this direction.
