Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At a plenary meeting of the Senate, the issue of sending a parliamentary inquiry to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the state of medical care provided to pregnant women and women of reproductive age, as well as babies was discussed.

It was noted at the meeting that the Committee on Science, Education and Healthcare studied in the regions the state of implementation of legislative acts concerning the provision of medical care to pregnant women, women of reproductive age and infants, and based on the problems identified at the local level, it was proposed to send a parliamentary request to the government.

In recent years, this area has received special attention, as evidenced by the adoption of laws "On breastfeeding support and requirements for food for infants and young children" and "On the protection of reproductive health of citizens" and other regulatory legal acts.

Today, the health care system in the republic has 226 maternity institutions, including 18 perinatal centers and the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Republican Center for Screening of Mother and Child, its 13 branches providing medical services to pregnant women, giving birth and giving birth. women and newborns.

At the same time, coverage of existing maternity facilities does not match the birth rate in the country.

It was emphasized that a number of tasks identified by the program of measures for 2019-2023 aimed at improving the quality and expanding the coverage of medical care provided to women of reproductive age, pregnant women and children are being untimely fulfilled, there are problems with the state of the material and technical base of maternity institutions and centers "Screening of mothers and children”, compliance with sanitary standards in them, attraction of qualified personnel to the sphere, coverage of every woman of reproductive age in makhallas of “Counseling centers for women” and “Centers for adolescent girls”.

It was noted that the full implementation of the Law on Breastfeeding Support and Food Requirements for Infants and Young Children and meeting domestic demand for food for infants and young children is inadequate.

The Senate made a decision to send a parliamentary inquiry to the Cabinet of Ministers with a request to clarify the work carried out on the designated issues and upcoming plans.
