ISMI: Formation of new transport corridors contributes to the integration of Central and South Asian countries into the world economy and global markets

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The formation of new transport corridors contributes to the integration of Central and South Asian countries into the world economy and global markets. This was stated by the Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Research (ISMI) under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan during an international scientific and practical conference on the topic: "Interrelation of Central and South Asia: prerequisites, prospects, geostrategic opportunities".

Sanjar Valiev paid special attention to some aspects of the future model of connectivity between Central and South Asia, the basis of which was laid by a high-level international conference held with the participation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent on July 16 this year.

The Tashkent conference, he stressed, demonstrated the high interest of the international community in the idea of sustainable development of two important regions of Asia through the revival of former political, trade, economic, and cultural and humanitarian ties.

This, noted the representative of the ISMI, is due to the fact that such a prospect opens up new inexhaustible opportunities for the dynamically developing countries of the two regions. In this context, it is especially important that "in his speech at the conference, the head of our state presented to the international community the strategic vision of Uzbekistan on the development of trans-regional relations, covering such key areas as energy, transport communications, trade, security and cultural and humanitarian cooperation."

The expert believes that the assessment of the possibilities for the implementation of regional infrastructure projects and the development of international transport corridors, which are designed to connect the countries of Central and South Asia, is especially in demand.

The formation of new trans-regional routes will provide regional countries not only with additional support for enhancing foreign economic activity, but will also increase their investment attractiveness, integration into the world economy and global markets.

“Thus, further advancement of common efforts with the establishment of coordination and constructive cooperation will contribute to the construction in Central and South Asia - a space for joint development, a reliable system of economic relations that takes into account the interests of all participants,” concluded Sanjar Valiev.

Leaders, prominent scientists and experts from leading research institutes and think tanks in Central and South Asia, CIS, USA, EU, Republic of Korea, Japan and Singapore took part at the event organized by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan jointly with the International Institute of Central Asia, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and the representative office of the German Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Central Asia on 18 August.
