Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2 March 2022, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with Hans Friedrich Schodder, representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Central Asia.

The current state and prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNHCR in the Afghan direction were considered.

Shodder praised Uzbekistan’s efforts to establish long-term and sustainable peace in Afghanistan. 

The need to intensify cooperation in providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people was noted.

The UNHCR representative expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for their assistance in creating a multifunctional transport and logistics hub in Termez to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. In this regard, the possibility of expanding the use of this hub as the main point for the transfer of humanitarian cargo to assist UNHCR operations not only in Afghanistan, but also in Iran and Central Asia was discussed.
