Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 June 2021, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev held talks with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Afghanistan and Regional Affairs Jean Arnault.

During the conversation, the parties discussed the efforts of Uzbekistan and the UN to resolve the Afghan problem and post-conflict reconstruction of the country.

Jean Arnault praised the policy pursued by the leadership of Uzbekistan for the peaceful resolution of the long-term Afghan crisis, the country’s integration into regional political and economic processes.

Jean Arnault especially emphasized the role of the Republic of Uzbekistan in launching direct inter-Afghan negotiations, which, according to him, will contribute to the early establishment of the long-awaited and stable peace in Afghanistan.

A thorough exchange of views also took place on priority areas of interaction between Uzbekistan and the United Nations in terms of promoting the peace negotiation process, as well as restoring the national economy of Afghanistan, and implementing infrastructure projects in the country.
