Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 3 September 2020, Ismatulla Irgashev, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, held talks with the head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Deborah Lyons in the format of videoconference.

During the conversation, the efforts of Uzbekistan and UNAMA to resolve the Afghan crisis, priority areas of interaction in the implementation of various projects in Afghanistan were discussed.

The head of UNAMA praised the policy of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the peaceful resolution of the Afghan crisis, as well as the socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan. In particular, interest was shown in projects for the construction of railways and new power lines in Afghanistan.

The importance of an early reduction in the level of violence in the country, as well as ensuring the key role of the Afghan people in the political process, was indicated.

A thorough exchange of views took place on rendering Afghanistan all possible assistance in launching peaceful inter-Afghan negotiations.
