Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 November 2022, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev held talks in Brussels with the Special Representative of the European Union for Afghanistan Thomas Niclasson.
During the conversation, the efforts of Uzbekistan and the EU for a peaceful settlement of the Afghan crisis, the speedy provision of humanitarian and other assistance to the country were discussed.
Thomas Nicklasson highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan in this direction, especially noting the successful holding of the international conference "Afghanistan: security and economic development" in Tashkent at the end of July this year.
The parties indicated the importance of fulfilling by the new authorities of the country the key requirements of the international community - the creation of a government based on broad representation, respect for fundamental human rights, including women and national minorities of the country.
The sides agreed with the opinion of the Uzbek side that without developing a consolidated position of the world community in relation to the new authorities of Afghanistan, it is impossible to resolve the acute social and humanitarian crisis, as well as promote the establishment of lasting peace and stability in the country.
The parties expressed mutual interest in continuing consultations on the Afghan issue, both on a bilateral basis and at the level of special representatives of the Central Asian countries.
