Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 November 2022, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev held talks in Jeddah with Special Representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for Afghanistan Tarik Bakhit.
The efforts of Uzbekistan and the OIC to peacefully resolve the Afghan crisis, as well as to provide humanitarian assistance to the country as soon as possible, were discussed.
An exchange of views took place on the current situation in Afghanistan, the development of a consolidated position of the OIC member states, both in relation to the new authorities of the country, and overcoming the deep humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Tarik Bakhit highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan to implement the project on the construction of the Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway in Afghanistan.
In his opinion, this is a truly strategic project for Afghanistan, which will make it possible to turn the country into a link of regional interconnectedness, i.e. in practice to connect Central and South Asia through this important transport artery.
The importance of fulfillment by the new Afghan authorities of the requirements of the international community, including on the issue of observing the rights of women and national minorities, was noted.
The parties expressed mutual interest in continuing consultations on the Afghan issue.
