Islom ota Mosque launched in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An opening ceremony of Islom ota Mosque, renamed in the honour of the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, was held in Tashkent on 7 October 2016, Uzbekistan Muslims Board said.

The mosque, which was named as Jurabek Mosque, was renamed in the honour of the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in connection with proposals and wishes of the public.

The mosque’s building was effectively destroyed in a fire that broke out there in spring 2015. Reconstruction work got under way in December and lasted for nine months.

During the construction process, the architects and builders have managed to comply fully with the Central Asian architectural canons for mosque building. The mosque’s interior and exterior have been decorated with beautiful ornaments, and verses from the Holy Quran are carved on its dome, walls and ceilings.

The mosque’s premises have rooms for ablutions and a library. We have also installed facilities for people with special needs, as well as a good air conditioning system
