Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A video conference of investors was held on the eve to discuss the project for the construction and management of the Syrdarya gas and electric power center, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reports.
The conference was organized by the Ministry of Energy, the Agency for the Development of Public-Private Partnership under the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with IFC, a member of the World Bank Group.
The event was attended by project developers, financial institutions and other interested parties. More than 30 potential investors from Japan, South Korea, China, the Middle East and Europe who are interested in implementing PPP projects in the energy sector of Uzbekistan, as well as several financial institutions, general contracting organizations and experts, got the opportunity to become more familiar with the goals and objectives of the project, the structure of the transaction , regulatory framework and the energy sector of Uzbekistan as a whole.
Earlier, the government of Uzbekistan announced a two-stage tender for the PPP project for the construction of the Syrdarya gas condensate processing center. A private partner will be selected through a competitive tender to conclude an agreement on financing, design, construction, operation, maintenance and transmission of a power plant. As a transactional adviser, IFC supports the government in structuring PPPs that will attract qualified private sector investors to develop the project and appropriately share risks between the state and the private sector.
According to the organizers of the video conference, a competitive tender process for this large-scale project will allow the government of Uzbekistan to attract the interest of many leading companies from around the world. It will also increase investor confidence in Uzbekistan and will have a long-term positive impact on the country's investment climate.
