Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- During the twenty-third plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, parliamentarians considered the Law on Ratification of the Agreement on Cooperation of the CIS Member States to Prevent and Suppress the Use of False Trademarks and Geographical Indications.
The main purpose of the Agreement is to create conditions that allow cooperation in preventing, detecting and suppressing the facts of the production and sale of goods bearing false trademarks and geographical indications, as well as the movement of such goods across the state borders of the CIS countries.
It was emphasized that the parties would regularly exchange information on the legal acts regulating issues under this Agreement, on those identified by the competent authorities in cases of production and sale of goods bearing false trade and geographical indications, and it is also planned to establish cooperation in the field of training and advanced training personnel in the field of intellectual property and conducting joint scientific research in the field of industrial property.
Competent state bodies will also be entrusted with additional tasks and functions in the field of legal protection and protection of geographical indications, their customs control through the export customs regime.
Senators noted that one of the important norms of the Agreement is that states that are not members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) will strive to follow the principles and norms of the WTO Agreement on Trade Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights.
The adoption of the Agreement will enhance the coordination of the efforts of the relevant bodies of the CIS member states, the protection of consumer rights and intellectual property rights.
The law was approved by the senators.
