Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 September 2020, an international conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the UN-Women structure was held.
The videoconference was attended by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairman of the Commission on Ensuring Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva.
The authoritative conference was attended by the heads of national organizations of the member countries of this structure, prominent women leaders from more than 170 countries of the world, members of parliaments, prominent politicians.
During the forum, issues of gender equality and the expansion of political and economic opportunities for women, strengthening their role in the life of the state and society were discussed.
Representatives of Uzbekistan informed about the reforms being carried out in the country in the field of protecting the rights and interests of women, ensuring their active participation in the political and socio-economic life of the country, as well as ensuring gender equality.
At the same time, the emphasis was placed on the issues of comprehensive protection of women in the context of the ongoing global pandemic, the restoration of their economic activity, and the provision of social assistance to them.
At the conference, the activities of the Commission for Ensuring Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan were discussed. It was noted that priority attention in our country is paid to the tasks of ensuring the employment of women in the context of a pandemic and creating conditions for entrepreneurship, strengthening the social protection of women with children.
The successes achieved as a result of ongoing large-scale interventions to reduce the incidence of domestic violence were also highlighted.
During the forum, it was emphasized that in order to further expand the opportunities for women in obtaining education, special quotas were introduced for girls from socially vulnerable groups of the population.
It was about the fact that in the context of a pandemic in Uzbekistan, large-scale programs are being implemented to widely use information and communication technologies in the field of employment and self-employment of women, to increase their level of economic knowledge and skills in the field of ICT and business in rural areas.
Foreign participants of the international forum particularly noted the effectiveness of Uzbekistan’s national programs to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection and ensure employment of the population, especially women. It was noted that thanks to consistent reforms carried out in recent years, Uzbekistan is successfully confronting the crisis caused by the pandemic and overcoming its consequences.
Upon completion of the videoconference, the participants adopted the appropriate recommendations.
