Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Senators considered the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Ratification of the International Labor Organization Convention No. 167 on Safety and Health in Construction” (Geneva, 20 June 1988).
The Convention was adopted on 20 June 1988 at one of the sessions of the ILO General Conference. The Convention covers all types of construction activities, including construction, civil engineering, erection and dismantling, including any processes, operations or transportation at a construction site, from site preparation to completion of the facility.
As part of the discussion, the senators expressed their views on the state of compliance with the requirements of occupational safety and health in Uzbekistan, the main problematic points in this direction. It was noted that ILO Convention No. 167 was ratified by 32 states, including among the CIS countries - the Russian Federation, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
At the same time, it was especially emphasized that most of the norms and provisions of the Convention were implemented in national legislation.
The ratification of this Convention will serve to the effective implementation of international standards on occupational safety and health in the construction industry. Especially, it will demonstrate the country’s commitment to basic international principles and standards to ensure the guarantee of workers’ rights.
The law was approved by the senators.
