Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- These days, the international forum “Generation of Equality” dedicated to gender equality is being held in the capital of France - Paris.
The event, hosted by UN Women, co-chaired by France and Mexico in partnership with civil society, was attended by foreign heads of state, representatives of world parliaments, international organizations, civil society, young leaders and the private sector.
Taking into account the importance of large-scale reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairperson of the Commission on Ensuring Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva took part in the Paris Forum.
It was noted that Uzbekistan has created a legislative framework for improving the status of women, and approved the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in Uzbekistan until 2030.
Also, purposeful work is underway to promote women to leadership positions, strengthen their reproductive health, ensure their employment and state protection from oppression and violence, and the Program for providing housing for those in need is being implemented.
The forum participants discussed issues on the prevention of violence, ensuring rights and justice in the labor sphere, reproductive health, gender equality in the context of technology development, access to education and knowledge, and others. In addition, a program of concrete measures to achieve gender equality until 2030 has been developed within the framework of the campaign “Generation of Equality: in Defense of Women’s Rights and an Equal Future”. It is planned to establish specific partnerships to achieve gender equality.
More than 100 virtual events will be held as part of the event, and at the end the Coalition for Action: A Program for Accelerating Gender Equality was adopted.
The Generation Equality Forum has created multi-stakeholder coalitions of action that will bring together governments, civil society and the private sector to achieve concrete and measurable results over five years on gender-based violence, economic justice, reproductive rights and health, women’s work in support of climate justice, technology and innovation, feminist movements and leadership.
The coalitions are joined by about 30 countries and over 70 different structures, including UN agencies, civil society institutions, youth associations, private companies and philanthropic government foundations, united coalitions.
As part of the Coalition of Action, Uzbekistan has committed itself to expanding women’s economic opportunities, improving reproductive health and eradicating gender-based violence.
