International cooperation for maternal and child health

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  In late November, specialists from the Republican Center for Maternal and Child Health and its branches are attending an international course on gynecological endocrinology in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The course, held on 25-30 November, is organized at one of the most respected medical institutions in Russia, the D.O. Ott Scientific Research Institute of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductology.

Gynecological endocrinology, which focuses on diagnosing and treating hormonal and reproductive disorders in women, plays a crucial role in improving women’s health. Hormonal imbalances, especially after the age of 45, can significantly affect a woman’s quality of life, a condition that affects a large portion of Uzbekistan’s female population, making it a vital area of concern. As such, continual training of specialists and the development of diagnostics, treatments, and preventive measures in this field are of utmost importance.

Thirteen specialists from Uzbekistan are participating in this course, which aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment methods for gynecological conditions. Participants, including Shakhnosa Normuradova from Surkhandarya, highlight the course’s significance, particularly for regions far from the capital, noting that it will enhance their ability to offer assistance locally.

Representatives from the Republican Center for Maternal and Child Health stress the importance of scientific collaboration with the D.O. Ott Institute, focusing on gynecological endocrinology research. This partnership will contribute to enhancing the center’s educational programs on gynecological endocrinology, which are held regularly in Tashkent for specialists from across Uzbekistan.

Moreover, the collaboration will foster the development of new research directions, including joint studies. According to Natalia Nadyirkhanova, Director of the Center, this partnership will allow them to implement innovations into their training cycles, create a national clinical protocol for perimenopausal pathology, and improve the functioning of "45+" clinics.

The course also covers critical areas such as thyroid pathology, diabetes during pregnancy, adrenal disorders, and other conditions affecting women’s reproductive health. Specialists emphasize the importance of a comprehensive approach, where early detection and management of endocrine disorders can help women, even with conditions like diabetes or obesity, have healthy children. This approach is a key to ensuring a healthy future generation.

The collaboration between the Republican Center for Maternal and Child Health and the D.O. Ott Institute is based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 17 February 2023.
