International conference of Turkic states’ think tanks kicks off in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A major international conference of leading think tanks from member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) opened today in Uzbekistan’s capital. The event is focused on the theme “Expanding Trade Potential among OTS Countries: Joint Research and Strategic Solutions.”
Obid Khakimov, Director of the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR), delivered the opening address. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of consolidating efforts amid growing global market instability and highlighted the pivotal role of the OTS as a platform for deepening economic cooperation.
“Located in the heart of Central Asia, Uzbekistan holds unique potential for uniting intellectual resources and building sustainable partnerships. This will help elevate our countries’ economies to a new level of integration and competitiveness,” Khakimov noted.
During the conference, the CERR head outlined five strategic directions for enhancing economic cooperation within the OTS:
Transport and Transit – Developing the “Middle Corridor” as a key route connecting Asia and Europe.
Trade Barriers – Removing restrictions and optimizing customs procedures.
Investment – Efficient utilization of the $600 million Turkic Investment Fund.
Water and Energy Agenda – Joint responses to environmental and infrastructure challenges.
Digital Transformation – Applying AI and digital platforms in trade and logistics.
“Our task is not only to assess risks but also to identify new growth points. Cooperation between think tanks forms the foundation for integration based on expert knowledge and mutual benefit,” Khakimov emphasized.
The conference brings together experts, government officials, and business leaders to develop practical solutions aimed at strengthening economic ties among OTS countries.
