Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Presidential Decree "On measures to further improve the system for ensuring the rights of the child" was adopted.
According to the decree, Institution of the Oliy Majlis Commissioner for the Rights of the Child (Children’s Ombudsman) was established.
The position of the Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights of the Oliy Majlis (Ombudsman) - Commissioner for Children’s Rights was abolished.
Children’s Ombudsman independently exercises its powers and is accountable to the chambers of the Oliy Majlis.
Children’s Ombudsman elected by the Legislative Chamber and the Senate for a term of five years.
A candidate for the position of a children’s Ombudsman is submitted by the President for consideration by the chambers of the Oliy Majlis.
According to the Decree, the Republican Interdepartmental Commission on Minors’ Affairs was transformed into the National Commission on Children.
Also, from 1 September 2021, the following will be created:
- Departments for the protection of children within the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers for Education and Health;
- Secretariat for the protection of children under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, khokimiyats of regions and the city of Tashkent;
- Departments for the protection of children in district (city) khokimiyats.
Citizens with higher education in the areas of "psychology", "jurisprudence" and "social work" are employed in the territorial structures of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers.
