Infant undergoes emergency bowel surgery in Tashkent after being fed flatbread and french fries

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A baby has undergone emergency surgery in a Tashkent hospital after suffering severe complications caused by being fed inappropriate food, local outlet Millar reports.

According to the source, the mother, a resident of one of Uzbekistan’s regions, was traveling to Tashkent with her child. Along the way, she purchased flatbread and fried potatoes from a roadside food stall. When the infant began crying from hunger, the woman chewed the food and attempted to feed it to the baby.

Shortly afterward, the child’s condition deteriorated rapidly. The infant was brought to a medical facility exhibiting symptoms of repeated vomiting, abdominal distension, intestinal bleeding, and intense pain. Doctors diagnosed intestinal gangrene — a life-threatening condition requiring immediate surgical intervention.

During the operation, the necrotic section of the intestine was removed, and the child was fitted with a stoma. The baby will need to live with the stoma and follow a strict medical diet for the next six months. Surgeons plan to perform a follow-up operation to restore bowel function once the child’s condition stabilizes.

Doctors warn that an infant’s digestive system is not equipped to handle heavy or processed foods — particularly fried items.

Failure to follow proper nutritional guidelines for infants can lead to severe, and sometimes irreversible, health consequences.
