In the field of energy, a new law, a market model and an electric grid code are being developed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A new edition of the Law on Electricity is being developed in Uzbekistan. This is one of the areas of reform carried out by the Ministry of Energy of the country with the involvement of the best international experience.

In particular, work on the development of a new bill is carried out by the Ministry of Energy together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Highly qualified experts from the UK, Georgia, Austria, Bulgaria and Italy, as well as local specialists with extensive experience in lawmaking, are involved in it. It is expected that the new law will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan for consideration at the end of May of the current 2020.

Also, the Ministry of Energy, together with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank, has begun work on developing a model of a competitive electricity market, the transition to which is expected to be implemented in 2023.

The Asian Development Bank and the World Bank are represented by international experts - consultants from Georgia, the USA and Turkey, who have many years of theoretical and practical experience in the field of reforming the electricity sector.

A team of specialists from the Project Office under the Ministry of Energy, as well as international experts and consultants, are studying promising market models and ways to transition to market relations. It is expected that the Concept of the model of the electricity market and the transition to market relations will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of the country by the end of March this year.

Another stage of the reform will be the introduction of the Grid Code, the development of which was launched by the Ministry of Energy together with the World Bank. International consultants from Serbia and the United Kingdom are involved in this work. The implementation of the Electric Grid Code will allow to systematize and concretize the functions, rights and obligations of energy companies and consumers of electricity. According to plans, the introduction of the Grid Code project for consideration by the government is expected by the end of May of this year.
