Important meeting of CIS leaders

Members of the UzLiDeP party commented the participation of the Uzbek leader at the CIS summit in Kazakhstan.

Zakir Umarov, a member of the UzLiDeP faction at the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, said that the CIS summit, attended by the Uzbek leader, considered perspective directions of cooperation within the Commonwealth and exchanged opinion on actual regional and international problems. Given the growing threat of radicalism, terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking, conflicts and confrontations, the event focused focus on issues of security cooperation.

He underlined that words of Islam Karimov on importance and timeliness of the CIS summit, taking into account tensity and fast changing situation around the CIS in the context of continuing global financial-economic crisis and social-economic situation in the Commonwealth states, were fair. Therefore, the exchange of opinion and search of ways to of tackling the unfolding quite alarming situation in the CIS are welcomed, he said.

UzLiDeP believes that the CIS proved positive role as structure with the powerful legal framework, developed tools and mechanism of interaction, which allow to support private intergovernmental cooperation, taking into account interests of all sides. Despite difficult time, the CIS is not only proactively countering extremist activity, but also serves as an important platform for economic and trade cooperation and mutual communication of citizens in the post-Soviet area. This meets interests of the electorate of our party, he added.

Atham Nazirqulov, a member of the UzLiDeP faction at the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, said the CIS leaders discussed perspective directions of cooperation within the Commonwealth, exchanged opinion on actual regional and international problems. But, according to UzLiDeP opinion, results of the summit and other events of the CIS, allows to conclude that they are general and have a framework character, and do not have any relation to the current situation in the Commonwealth.

The party believes that one of reasons for it is creation of other inter-governmental formation in the CIS area. So, it is important that the CIS and Eurasian Union have own agenda and action programme, so they do not duplicate each other, but they should complement each other.

He said that the perspective direction is to deepen cooperation in transport communication and transit via providing mutual preferences, realization of efficient tariff policy, as well as develop new mutual beneficial transport routes.
