Imam Maturidi Complex in Samarkand Undergoes Renovation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During an official visit to Samarkand, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the ongoing renovation and construction at the Imam Maturidi memorial complex.

The project commemorates the 1,155th anniversary of the birth of Abu Mansur Maturidi, the founder of the Maturidi school of Islamic theology. A large-scale development plan is underway at the Chokardiza cemetery in Samarkand, aimed at enhancing the site’s infrastructure and visitor experience.

The 10.2-hectare complex is set to include a mosque accommodating 250 worshippers, a main entrance portal, a library, a museum, and a parking facility. During construction, the burial site of prominent Islamic jurist Burhaniddin Marginani was identified, prompting the development of a dedicated mausoleum.

During his visit, the President and accompanying officials recited Quranic surahs in honor of the scholars.

President Mirziyoyev highlighted the importance of the complex as a center of pilgrimage for Muslims worldwide and stressed the need to create modern facilities for visitors. “Guests should gain a comprehensive understanding of Imam Maturidi’s scholarly and spiritual legacy, his role in the Islamic world, and the relevance of his educational ideas today,” he stated.

Following the visit, directives were issued to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of construction and to expand green spaces within the complex.
