Illegal trade in gold jewelry worth 1 Billion soums prevented in Khorezm region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Customs officers in Khorezm Region, in coordination with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, have thwarted an attempt to illegally sell gold jewelry valued at approximately 1 billion Uzbek soums.
During an operational raid, officers detained a suspect who was found selling a gold ring weighing 5.95 grams without the required authorization or license. A subsequent inspection of the suspect's retail premises, carried out in the presence of witnesses, uncovered over 1 kilogram of gold jewelry for which no legal documentation was provided.
The seized items, with a preliminary estimated value of around 1 billion soums, have been placed in temporary storage.
A pre-investigation inquiry into the case is currently underway.
