Humanitarian cargo from Uzbekistan delivered to Islamabad

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 September, a humanitarian cargo from Uzbekistan arrived at Islamabad airport to assist the fraternal people of Pakistan, who suffered from incessant monsoon rains and the devastating floods they caused, Dunyo news agency reported.

About 40 tons of gratuitous aid with food, blankets and other goods were delivered by a special aircraft of the Air Force of Uzbekistan. The cargo will be sent to the areas most affected by the natural disaster and in need of basic necessities.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Agha Hassan Baloch received the cargo at Islamabad International Airport on behalf of the Government of Pakistan.

“Today we are witnessing the true feelings of empathy of our Uzbek brothers and sisters, who were among the first to lend a hand of support in such difficult days for us,” the minister said.

The government and people of Pakistan highly appreciate the generosity of the gesture of the leadership and people of fraternal Uzbekistan.

Words of gratitude were also expressed by Shah Faisal Kakar, General Director of the Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan for cooperation with the countries of Central Asia.

The unprecedented monsoon rains and floods in Pakistan over the past few weeks have affected millions of families. The population of the Baluchistan and Sindh provinces suffered the most. Hundreds of thousands of people were left without shelter and livelihood.

More than 1,000 people died as a result of the catastrophic consequences of heavy rains and the massive floods they caused, according to media reports.
