Huawei: Green solutions for Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 June, an Ecological Forum was held in Uzbekistan as part of the "Week of Active Citizens" - 2022, organized by the Yuksalish National Movement.

The purpose of the event was to bring together environmentally oriented NGOs and eco-activists of Uzbekistan to develop recommendations on topical environmental issues in the country, including the role of advanced technologies and alternative energy sources in achieving carbon neutrality.

Huawei, as a partner of the Yuksalish national movement in the Bir Million Darakht project, supported the Green Economy and Innovation as Drivers of Sustainable Development Environmental Forum, which was held as part of Active Citizens Week 2022.

“Today, every enterprise, organization and every person should think about the trace that remains after his activities, and about the contribution that he can make to preserve the green world. Huawei strives to focus on preserving the sustainable development of the planet in its activities, both from the position of a corporately responsible citizen, participating in eco-promotions, and from the position of a technology company, constantly investing in innovation. Our technology is driven by a strategy to reduce carbon emissions, increase the use of renewable energy, promote the circular economy and conserve nature through technology. We believe that digital technologies are a key factor in protecting the environment,” said Mr. Chen Jiakai, Director of Huawei in Uzbekistan, in his opening speech.

During the forum, the participants touched upon the most pressing topics that concern the eco-community, such as modern challenges in the conservation of the environment and biodiversity, the basic principles of the "green" economy, increasing the efficiency of water resources use, and land degradation. Huawei focused on the introduction and development of renewable energy sources, as well as the need to accelerate the digital transformation of the industrial, transport, construction sectors and the use of green digital infrastructure to achieve carbon neutrality.

During the event, Huawei announced its next contribution to support the Green Aral Sea project launched by the United Nations Development Program in 2020. The goal of the project is to green the bottom of the Aral Sea by planting saxaul seedlings to mitigate the negative effects of climate change in the Aral Sea region. As the green champion of the project, Huawei will support planting 10,000 seedlings this year, bringing the company’s total to 40,000 saxaul seedlings.
