Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15 June this year, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chair of the National Commission on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Forced Labor Tanzila Narbayeva met with Senior Policy Advisor to the US Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission) Janice Helwig.
A number of important issues were discussed during the meeting. Among them, attention was focused on the great achievements of Uzbekistan in recent years to end forced labor and child labor.
In this regard, the representative of the Helsinki Commission emphasized that, as a specialist dealing with the problems of combating human trafficking and gender issues, as well as with 25 years of experience working with Central Asia, she acknowledges with satisfaction the significant progress of Uzbekistan in recent years in the field of eradicating forced and child labor in the country. In her opinion, the cancellation of the boycott of Uzbek cotton by the international coalition Cotton Campaign is also a significant event.
Janice Helwig separately emphasized the stable dynamics of relations between Uzbekistan and the OSCE, especially through the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). She expressed hope for the continued implementation of the recommendations and guidelines of the OSCE in the country.
