Heads of the Prosecutor’s Office of Uzbekistan and Russia sign documents aimed at deepening international cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Today, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov, while on a working visit in Tashkent, met with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nigmatilla Yuldashev.

Igor Krasnov stressed that cooperation between the two supervisory agencies is developing in a constructive manner, and the current meeting is a confirmation of the focus on its further strengthening in the fight against common threats that do not have state borders. Among them, the Prosecutor General of Russia called cybercrime, drug trafficking, and the cross-border movement of illegal financial flows as relevant.

Among other things, the situation in Afghanistan was touched upon. Igor Krasnov noted that the states of the Eurasian region are jointly taking urgent preventive measures to ensure law and order in our territories to prevent possible negative consequences of the crisis in Afghanistan. "Today, the risks of penetration into the CIS of persons involved in terrorist and extremist activities have significantly increased, which requires additional coordination of efforts to identify and block them at border crossings," said the head of the Russian supervisory agency.

The Russian Prosecutor General stressed that the real danger of an active resumption of the flow of drugs and weapons from Afghanistan remains. As practice shows, the financing of these types of criminal activities is increasingly carried out through cryptocurrencies and the use of a virtual environment. It is important to be prepared for new challenges. In this regard, Igor Krasnov expressed confidence that both departments will continue to build up the existing potential for interaction in these and other areas of prosecutorial activities.

Noting the positive results of long-term and constructive interaction, the heads of the Prosecutor General’s Offices signed the Cooperation Program for 2021–2023.

Attaching great importance to the further implementation of the existing interdepartmental agreements, Igor Krasnov and Nigmatilla Yuldashev also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the scientific and educational spheres.

This document is intended to deepen the existing partnership in order to increase the effectiveness of joint efforts in the fight against transnational crime, as well as to ensure the protection of human and civil rights and freedoms.

Thus, it is planned to conduct joint scientific research on the problems of cybercrime, illegal use of digital currency and digital financial assets, migration, human trafficking, the spread of narcotic and psychotropic drugs, corruption, etc.

At the end of the meeting, the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov expressed hope for the continuation of an active dialogue and fruitful cooperation between the Prosecutor Generals of the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan.
