GIZ: Summing up the interim results of cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 9 June 2022, a round table was organized in the capital by the German Society for International Cooperation - GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) in order to take stock of ongoing joint projects with involved ministries and departments of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as international organizations.

The largest project that has been implemented since 2019 and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ, Germany) is the global project “Sustainable Development and Increase in Value Added in the Cotton Industry of Uzbekistan”, covering the agricultural, cotton and textile industries, as well as environmental protection environment and climate, social and economic development.

This project has achieved significant results, such as processing 34.19 hectares of land in accordance with sustainability standards, training more than 1,000 people in various areas of standardization, and most importantly, helping to end systematic forced and child labor in the cotton industry.

In particular, several more projects have been initiated aimed at developing sustainability in the areas covered by the project. According to Project Manager Gina Burgard, Sustainability is at the heart of every project.

From the Uzbek side, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Association "Uztekstilprom" spoke, who presented their visions and results of the implementation of projects with GIZ.

In particular, the association "Uztekstilprom" in cooperation with the GIZ is currently implementing an ambitious project to position Tashkent as a regional capital of the fashion industry "Promotion of exports and the creation of a Fashion Incubator (FIT)". The project is aimed at promoting fashion startups in Uzbekistan and increasing the awareness of Uzbek brands in the international market.

At the end of the round table, the project working groups and invited guests individually held workshops in order to present the current situation on the projects and discuss further steps from implementation.
